Understand the benefits of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and how you can receive financial support for upgrading to low-carbon heating solutions.

The UK government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers financial incentives to encourage property owners in England and Wales to switch from fossil fuel heating systems to low-carbon alternatives, such as heat pumps and biomass boilers. This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency in homes and small non-domestic buildings.

What Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

Launched in April 2022, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides upfront capital grants to support the installation of low-carbon heating systems. The scheme is scheduled to run until 2028, with increased funding announced to boost adoption rates.

Available Grants

As of October 23, 2023, the grant amounts have been increased to:

  • £7,500 towards the cost and installation of an air source heat pump.
  • £7,500 towards the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump, including water source heat pumps.
  • £5,000 towards the cost and installation of a biomass boiler.

These grants are designed to offset the higher upfront costs associated with low-carbon heating technologies.
