In short: Universal Credit doesn't routinely contact private landlords. The DWP may get in touch to verify your rent or tenancy if the evidence is unclear, or when setting up a managed payment (Alternative Payment Arrangement) so housing costs go straight to the landlord. Social landlords use a dedicated portal to confirm rents. Beyond that, your landlord can't see your claim without your consent.
