For Year 9 entry, boys applying in Year 6 are required to sit the ISEB Pre-Test. Parents are responsible for registering their son for the assessment.

Applicants who register on time may also be invited to an Experience Afternoon, where they participate in individual and collaborative activities and complete a one-to-one interview with a member of the teaching staff.

Tonbridge also requests a confidential reference from the applicant's current school.

The strongest candidates may receive an unconditional offer. Other suitable candidates may receive a provisional offer and subsequently complete further examinations and an interview before a final decision is made.

International admissions at 14+

Tonbridge offers only a small number of Year 10 places, making this route particularly competitive.

For international applicants, a UKiset assessment is required before the candidate can be considered for a place. Applicants who perform well in the initial assessment can then be invited to sit Tonbridge's entrance examinations in Mathematics and English.

These examinations may be taken at Tonbridge or at an approved overseas test centre.

Successful candidates are subsequently invited to an online interview. Decisions are normally communicated in December.

Because places at 14+ are limited, families should not treat this route as an alternative to the main 13+ process without first checking availability and entry requirements.

Sixth Form admissions at 16+

Tonbridge also accepts applications for Year 12. The school is seeking students who want to develop strong subject specialisms and pursue their academic interests at Sixth Form.

For 2027 entry, the application deadline is 1 October 2026.

International applicants whose parents live overseas must complete a UKiset assessment, naming Tonbridge as the school to receive the results.

Candidates specify four A Level subjects on the registration form and are assessed in those subjects alongside an English Language examination.

Strong candidates may then be invited to subject-specific examinations and an online interview with a specialist teacher.

Offers are normally issued in December and are subject to the applicant achieving the required grades and providing a satisfactory school reference.

Tonbridge has also announced that girls will be welcomed into the Sixth Form from September 2028.

English-language expectations for international applicants
