Companies House Account Not Working - Login, Access and Filing Problems
If your Companies House account is not working, the problem may be related to the recent move to GOV.UK One Login, incorrect account details, identity verification, or an issue with the Companies House online service. Since October 2025, Companies House WebFiling accounts have been moving to GOV.UK One Login, so some users may need to connect their existing account before they can continue filing online.
Common Reasons Your Companies House Account Is Not Working
A Companies House account may stop working because:
-
Your WebFiling account has not been connected to GOV.UK One Login
-
You are using a different email address from the one linked to your Companies House account
-
You have forgotten your password or One Login details
-
Your account has not been properly connected after the system changes
-
Your identity verification is incomplete
-
You are trying to access a filing that requires additional verification
-
Companies House is experiencing a temporary technical problem
Companies House has confirmed that access to WebFiling is moving to GOV.UK One Login, and users may be asked to connect their existing WebFiling account when signing in.
Companies House Account Login Not Working
If you cannot log in, first check that you are using the correct email address. If you previously used WebFiling, make sure the email associated with that account is accessible and, where applicable, matches the email you use for GOV.UK One Login.
If you have forgotten your login details, use the available account recovery options rather than creating multiple new accounts, as this can make it harder to access your existing company information.
GOV.UK One Login Problem
If the problem appeared after Companies House moved your account to GOV.UK One Login, you may need to complete the account connection process.
Your existing Companies House information is not necessarily lost simply because the login process has changed. The important issue is connecting the correct account and using the appropriate email address.
Companies House Identity Verification Problem
If you can access your account but cannot complete a filing, identity verification may be the issue.
Since 18 November 2025, identity verification has become a legal requirement for company directors and PSCs, with a 12-month transition period. Directors can verify through GOV.UK One Login or, where appropriate, through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider.
If your identity verification has failed, check that your name, date of birth and other details correspond with the information held at Companies House.
Companies House Account Working but Filing Not Working
Sometimes the account itself works but a particular filing cannot be submitted. This can happen where:
-
A required director has not completed identity verification
-
A Companies House personal code has not been provided where required
-
Company information does not match the filing
-
The filing contains an error
-
The online service is experiencing a technical problem
For example, confirmation statements can be affected where required directors have not completed the necessary identity verification.
Companies House Account Not Working for an Overseas Director
Overseas directors can also encounter problems with Companies House accounts and identity verification. A non-UK resident director can generally verify identity using an eligible biometric passport through the GOV.UK One Login route or use an ACSP where appropriate.
This can be particularly useful for UK companies managed by overseas directors or international business owners who need to complete Companies House requirements without travelling to the UK.
