In short: For online shopping or rental scams, how you paid decides how you get money back. Bank transfers are covered by the APP reimbursement rules (up to £85,000 since October 2024). Card payments can be disputed by chargeback, and credit card purchases from £100 to £30,000 have Section 75 protection. PayPal and similar services have their own dispute processes with tight deadlines. Report the scam to Action Fraud and the website or platform. Fake rental adverts are common in London: never pay a deposit before viewing and checking the landlord or agent. Fraser Bond is a property agency, not a recovery firm; this is independent guidance.
