In short: Rent to Buy homes are let by housing associations and other approved providers at a reduced rent, typically up to 80% of the local market rent, so you can save for a deposit. Tenancies usually run for up to five years, after which you're offered the chance to buy the home, often through shared ownership or outright purchase. Eligibility usually requires you to be working and not currently own a home.

Is it right for you?
- Good fit: you have steady income, can save regularly and want to buy within five years
- Think carefully: if your job may move, or you're unlikely to save a deposit in time
- Remember: you're still a tenant, so the home isn't yours until you buy
Plan your savings
- Set a monthly savings target using the rent discount
- Check your credit file and fix errors
- Speak to a mortgage adviser early about deposit and income needs
- Look into the Lifetime ISA if eligible
