In short: When you pay off a mortgage, the lender's charge on your Land Registry title must be removed. Lenders usually do this electronically, or by sending a signed DS1 form that you or your solicitor submit. If you've repaid a mortgage but the charge still shows, ask the lender to confirm the discharge. When you sell, your solicitor arranges for existing charges to be cleared at completion. Fraser Bond helps sellers prepare for a smooth sale.
