In short: You can check water flow with a bucket and a timer, and pressure with an inexpensive gauge that screws onto an outdoor or washing machine tap. Low pressure can be caused by a partly closed stopcock, a blocked filter, old pipes, leaks, or a problem on the water network. Check with neighbours, then contact your water company if it's a wider issue. In a rental, tell your landlord. Fraser Bond arranges plumbers for the homes we manage.

Flow rate (litres per minute)–

Fill a bucket from the cold kitchen tap, fully open, and time it. Many combi boilers and showers need a good flow rate to work well.
